SSI makes monthly payments to people who have low income and few resources and are:
Age 65 or older;
Blind; or
Disabled.
If you are applying for SSI, you can complete a large part of your application by visiting our website at www.socialsecurity.gov. You also can call us toll-free at (866) 837-1235 to ask for an appointment with a Social Security representative.
Parents or guardians usually can apply for blind or disabled children under age 18. In some cases, other third parties can apply for children.
You should bring certain items when you apply. Even if you do not have all of the things listed below, apply anyway. The people in the Social Security office can help you get whatever is needed.
Please bring:
- Your Social Security card or a record of your Social Security number;
- Your birth certificate or other proof of your age;
- Information about the home where you live, such as your mortgage or your lease and landlord's name;
- Payroll slips, bank books, insurance policies, burial fund records and other information about your income and the things you own;
- The names, addresses and telephone numbers of doctors, hospitals and clinics that you have been to, if you are applying for SSI because you are disabled or blind;
- Proof of U.S. citizenship or eligible noncitizen status; and
- Your checkbook or other papers that show your bank, credit union or savings and loan account number. If you are approved for SSI, you must receive your

I would like to schedule an appointment to change my last name as I have remarried.
I want to schedule a walk in visit to social security, and having a difficult time.
I need a replacement social security card. Do I need to make an appointment because of COVID-19? Or can I walk in? Also what do I need to bring with me?
I applied for my sons social security card in September 22, 2021 they have all the documentations needed they told me it can take up to 10-12 business days it is now January 2022 and my son still doesn't have his ss card and he still cant get his permit.
Everyone I spoke to in this office has been compassionate and helpful. It is a staff of genuinely professional and kind people.
I need a copy of my award letter. Can I get it by e mail sooner than in the mail or can I get an appointment sooner?
I sent my paperwork almost 3 weeks ago and haven't received anything back. I was promised it would take a couple days to get my items back.
This is nonsense that you can’t go to the office to get a social security card for a minor, or apply for one online for it. But, you need the card to get a drivers license. What a joke this agency has become!
Very good
How can a get my social security card that I lost

Cuando estará abierta la oficina ?
Install some vending machines...people who are waiting 2-3-4 hours, usually get hungry and thirsty!
Mr. Pinero was the one shining star of my visit. The office is a horrible place to wait for four hours. Screaming kids, no vending machines, and lack of information from the check-in girl that all non-appointments are handled after all the scheduled appointments. I cannot say enough about the professionalism of Mr. Pinero. He understood the reason I was there, and handled it promptly and efficiently. He deserves much more than just me thanking him. He is what all in the office should strive for. Thank you Mr. Pinero.
