SSI makes monthly payments to people who have low income and few resources and are:
Age 65 or older;
Blind; or
Disabled.
If you are applying for SSI, you can complete a large part of your application by visiting our website at www.socialsecurity.gov. You also can call us toll-free at 866-931-7120 to ask for an appointment with a Social Security representative.
Parents or guardians usually can apply for blind or disabled children under age 18. In some cases, other third parties can apply for children.
You should bring certain items when you apply. Even if you do not have all of the things listed below, apply anyway. The people in the Social Security office can help you get whatever is needed.
Please bring:
- Your Social Security card or a record of your Social Security number;
- Your birth certificate or other proof of your age;
- Information about the home where you live, such as your mortgage or your lease and landlord's name;
- Payroll slips, bank books, insurance policies, burial fund records and other information about your income and the things you own;
- The names, addresses and telephone numbers of doctors, hospitals and clinics that you have been to, if you are applying for SSI because you are disabled or blind;
- Proof of U.S. citizenship or eligible noncitizen status; and
- Your checkbook or other papers that show your bank, credit union or savings and loan account number. If you are approved for SSI, you must receive your

Opening Up a MySocialSecurity Account

SSI
SSI benefits also are payable to people 65 and older without disabilities who meet the financial limits. People who have worked long enough may also be able to receive Social Security disability or retirement benefits as well as SSI.

If not doing in office appointment to get replacement social security cards why is it on the SS website to call and schedule an appointment? Why are any of your employees even there? Why are you using covid as an excuse not to do the job your there to do? why are all government officials so worthless?

I have been waiting over 3 weeks for a response from this office, I have submitted the forms and statements more than 3 weeks ago, my medical card and my direct deposit card are not working
I had to visit this office twice. The first time prior to visiting the office, I made a phone call to confirm what documents I need. I took the documents as per the instruction of the agent at the office. Upon arrival, the security officer looked at me if the cat dragged me in. I politely greeted him and asked for help. He has rudely pointed me the finger to the machine. He refused to talk to me. My wife which is on L2 visa, was told by the agent that she needs a marriage certificate before she can apply. I had to return to my home country to get the original marriage certificate. We returned to the SSA for my wife's SSN. As I walked into the building, I looked at the security officer which is the first person seen and greet him again politely. Again I was looked at if the cat dragged me in, he did not greet back or even acknowledged me. The next moment I was addressed as 'young man'. I was not even sure if he was addressing me. Suddenly the officer which was now standing to next to me, telling me that it (pointing to my pocket) was not allowed. I had to remove my small pocket knife. Upon entry of the SSA, I didn't see any signs stating that weapons / pocket knifes are not allowed, if I did I would've certainly removed it before entry. I am sure, the security officer can greet people back without compromising his responsibilities. It is not possible that I caught him twice having a bad day. The 2 agents behind the windows on our second visit was found to be professional and very helpful.
