It is absolutely insane that the social security office remains closed under the guise of 'protecting the disabled and elderly'. No one else is working from home anymore. Vaccinations have been widely distributed. There is no reason these offices should be closed. They have people mailing in sensitive documents and then when you call to check and make sure they were received, NO ONE CAN TELL YOU WHERE THEY ARE. I had the displeasure of speaking with someone today and it was blatantly obvious she hates her job and possibly people for that matter.
First of all, no one wants to have to call Social Security, IRS or Medicare. The wait times are long, sometimes the agents only offer up minimal information or just do the bare minimum. Sometimes you dont even get the information you need after being on hold for mind bending amounts of time. However, that is not the case with the Shreveport Social Security office. Since I retired about 4 months ago, I have had to call the Social Security Office several times for various little things, mostly to be sure I was filling out forms or following a procedure correctly. Every time I have called I have not had to wait longer than 5-7 minutes to talk to a SS Agent.. Every single Agent I talked to was very professional, gave me the information I needed and offered helpful suggestions. One agent in particular, Mrs. McNann, was exceptional in that she explained what I needed to know very clearly, told me where I could find information I needed, found out information I needed while I was on the phone and made what I thought was going to be a daunting task rather easy because I got all of the information I needed and I understood it. I was extremely grateful for that because before I called them I was so confused about the rules on a form. Besides obviously being very competent in her job and going the extra mile, she had excellent people skills and was very warm and even funny. She made my day that day. I actually felt like I had made a new friend. One thing the general public needs to remember is that these Agents are not the lawmakers, they dont write the policies and whatever is wrong with the SS system is not their fault. They cannot change the laws and policies that are already in place. They are here to guide and help us, the general public. The Agents have to go by the procedures already put in place. and it is up to us to realize that.and not to blame them for what does not work for us. All in all, the Agents in the Shreveport Social Security Office have been extremely professional, and helpful.

The address for the Shreveport office seems abandoned. No lights, no signs, no automobiles in parking lights and a barricade at the front door. Then too it is impossible to get through on the phone.

I called the Shreveport, LA, Social Security Office, and was on hold for an hour before the system defaulted to an apparent 'hang up'. This was not only a waste of my time, rather extreme discourtesy to customers as it appears all relevant services are driven by a phone call or in-person visit. I look forward to hearing back from an Administrator or Chief of Staff.
